Holiday Cranberry Hugo Spritz Pitcher

An original make-ahead pitcher cocktail that folds tart cranberry and bright lime into a classic Hugo-style spritz. Floral elderflower, mint, and plenty of bubbles keep it light enough for a long holiday party, and you can mix the base hours before guests arrive.

Instructions

  1. 1In a large pitcher (at least 2 1/2 quarts), stir together the cranberry juice, elderflower liqueur, and lime juice until evenly combined.
  2. 2Add the mint leaves and gently press them against the side of the pitcher with a wooden spoon just until fragrant; do not mash them into bits.
  3. 3Stir in the cranberries and lime wheels.
  4. 4Cover and refrigerate the base for at least 30 minutes or up to 4 hours so the mint and cranberry infuse the liquid.
  5. 5Just before serving, add a generous amount of ice to the pitcher, or fill individual wine glasses with ice instead.
  6. 6Slowly pour in the chilled prosecco and club soda. Give the pitcher one or two gentle stirs so you do not knock out the bubbles.
  7. 7Ladle into glasses, making sure each serving gets cranberries, a lime wheel, and a fresh mint sprig. Serve right away while it is still sparkling.
